Let Them Eat Cupcakes

Tuesday, April 12, 2011

I made these cupcakes for my aunt's 50th birthday this weekend - they turned out pretty cute don't you think? This spring I am loving yellow and gray so I used cupcake holders from here and toothpicks with yellow tape to make the flags. And, I was so happy to have a birthday to bake something for because it meant I got to use the buttermilk leftover from my homemade butter

Ill tell you the secret of how to make cupcakes from a box taste totally homemade and extra delicious. Follow the recipe on the box but instead of water, use that amount of buttermilk and always use three eggs, even if the box says to only use two. I promise, people will not even know what hit them when they try your cupcakes, they are so much better!

These were pretty easy to throw together and you could do them with any color combination, I think they will be my go-to dessert for parties and birthdays! (Forget you read this when you get the same ones next month, Dad!)

Love, Julie

Looks delicious! I'm loving yellow and gray right now, too. Maybe it's the contrast of the sunny yellow daffodils that have popped up everywhere against the gray Seattle days we've had for weeks now!
