Crepe Love

Mitchell is Croatian and his dad makes amazing homemade polychinkas, a fancy, Croatian name for crepes. When he was little, his mom made them every Friday for the whole family, they would fill them with cottage cheese, fruit, or jelly and have breakfast for dinner. Then for dessert, they make another round and fill these with Nesquik powdered chocolate with whipped cream. Nowadays he makes them for his whole family (me included, thank god) and they are so delicious words won't do them justice.

In case you haven't noticed here, here, and here, I am on a major crepe kick lately. I will eat them any day, any meal. And the great thing about crepes is, you can eat them for any meal, breakfast, lunch, or dinner, how great is that? My all time favorite filling is Nutella and banana, although the Nesquik powder Mitchell's family introduced me to is a very close second.

How do you feel about crepes? Do you love them as much as I do? What is your favorite type?

Chalkboard Love

I love chalkboards. I love how vintage-y they feel and how anything written on them just seems like so much fun! I have a dream to have a huge wall painted with chalkboard paint in my kitchen someday but until then, I have this framed chalkboard hanging in my hall.

I actually got this chalkboard from Liz from Say Yes to Hoboken in San Fransisco. She made it from an old frame with magnetic and chalkboard paint. She also drew the sketch of the Golden Gate Bridge in the corner (I could never do that) and its so good I don't have the heart to erase it!

This is so nice to have in the hall because I pass it anytime I go in or out of my room or the bathroom so I see it a lot. This picture was taken a while ago but right now it is covered in paint samples of colors I love and more instant pictures. I had big dreams of long lists of groceries and things to do written on this board but I realized after I got my first pack of chalk (did you know chalk is really hard to find?) and wrote that messy list you can see in the photo that I hate the feel of writing with chalk! So until I conquer that fear I guess I will stick to photos and paint samples.

Getting back to my chalkboard dreams, here are some other chalkboards from around the web I am adding to my chalkboard dream house.

I can only imagine what a good chalk artist could do with this chalkboard, imagine the dinner party conversation!

I love the idea of a chalkboard on a pantry door!

On a closely related note, how cool is this chalkboard globe? My dad traveled a lot when I was little and I wish I had this in my room then to mark where he was when he was gone!

Things I Love: Instant Cameras

One of my favorite Christmas gifts I got this year was a Fujifilm Instax Mini Camera from Mitchell. It is the cutest little camera and it takes mini pictures that print instantly, like a tiny Polaroid. It is such a fun toy to bring to parties or people's houses and laugh at the funny pictures that come out. The pictures are also a great because they are so little (like the size of a credit card) they can go anywhere. I have them up all over my apartment and they make me so happy!

Here are some of my favorite photos!

It is the perfect way to take pictures of random things you just can't wait to get printed out! The only downside is the film is a little expensive (I buy big quantities on ebay) but this is totally made up for by the fact that it has a self portrait mirror on the front so you can see yourself as you take a picture!

I have actually never met anyone else with this camera and everyone I show is totally amazed it even exists, does anyone else have a little instant camera like this or ever played with one?

Things I Love: Cake Plates

I have a major infatuation with cake plates. I have collected some already but they are horded away in a cabinet above my refrigerator and my dream is to have a huge collection somewhere on display in my house. Here are a few of I have been drooling over for the last few days!

All these are from Pinterest, my newest obsession

Things I Love: Family

This funny group is my brother, sisters and me posing for pictures last year.

There are six of us in my family and when everyone is home our house is the picture of chaos. In addition to the six of us, there are always countless neighbors, friends and animals running around and it is easy to imagine guests watching our house spin and thinking, what the hell is going on...

A few highlights from the Edmonds' household:

·         At one point in my life we had triple the number of animals as people (did you know rats double gestate and have up to 20 babies each pregnancy? surprise!)

·         When I was 13 we went had “Transportation Day” and rode on over 35 different methods of transportation (is an escalator pushing it?)

·         We throw killer parties

·         We have three chickens named Mirabel, Gertrude, and Beatrice (Remember this post about lacking pet follow through?)

·         My dad had biked across the country, how rad is he?

·         We have a 24 pound black cat who can sit, shake, and lie down on command
